Manchester United keeping track of Moukoko as Dortmund departure looking increasingly likely

Manchester United are continuing to keep track of young German striker Youssoufa Moukoko, reports 90 Min.

Even though Wout Weghorst appears Manchester United bound, this is viewed as simply a short-term fix, with a long-term striker being sought.

Moukoko’s name has been connected with United over the last couple of months, with The Times reporting the club’s interest in the record breaking Bundesliga striker.

The 18-year-old could become a real coup if United are able to win the race for his signature this coming summer.

What is Moukoko’s current situation

Moukoko’s contract at Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the current season. The Times had reported, and the German club were trying to get a new deal done.

However, as we reach mid-January, there is no resolution between player and club.

90 Min report it is now looking ‘increasingly likely’ that Moukoko will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season on a free transfer.

In addition to being apart on wages, Moukoko’s representatives want a release clause to be inserted into his Dortmund contract, and no figure can be agreed between player and club.

The longer this drags on, the more likely it is he will leave, with 90 Min claiming both Chelsea and Newcastle have held talks with the young striker’s agents.

The report adds that Manchester United have ‘asked to kept abreast of developments’, while clubs in Italy and Spain are also key, with Bayern Munich also studying the situation.

Moukoko is only 18, so United can’t expect him to come in and fix the club’s long-serving striker issue overnight, if he were signed in the summer. He would still be a gamble, but an exciting one, who scored a staggering 141 goals in 88 games for Borussia Dortmund’s youth teams.

Oon a free transfer, a deal would be a shrewd one, and if United were able to win the race, it would say a lot about the impressive direction Erik ten Hag is taking the club in.
