Manchester United are among the clubs in the mix to sign the young Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo.

The 20-year-old Brazilian has long been a name linked with an Old Trafford move at some point.

It was reported earlier in the window by The Mail that United have been watching the talent for over a year.

The forward starred for Brazil in the Under-20 World Cup back in June scoring five goals in five games, along with an assist.

Despite having already brought in Rasmus Højlund with the Dane’s deal set to be announced any day now, it seems United want more.

United join the race for Leonardo

According to a report from CalcioMercato, Manchester United are a side who are in the race to sign the Santos star.

The report however does mention that they aren’t the only team interested in looking at a deal.

Roma are the team credited with being close to a deal, with the report claiming negotiations are strong.

It has been said the negotiations are ‘hot’ and that the youngster wants the Giallorossi over a Premier League move.

Leonardo has been enjoying solid form for Santos, scoring 14 goals this season in 30 games to date which demonstrates clearly why he has attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

What would he bring to United

Leonardo would be an incredibly exciting incoming, a deal which would signal the end for Anthony Martial.

The Brazilian would give United a City sequel back-up option as Manchester City have with Rasmus Hojlund currently.

The striker was talked up by Ganso previously on SporTV: “He is a goal-maker. I hope that he keeps improving, scores a lot of goals. He has technical quality. And the main thing: he knows how to score.”

Leonardo would likely only cost around £15million due to his market value, but for that price could represent an incredible option who could provide competition with Højlund.
