Manchester United have signed two players from Atalanta in recent seasons, spending big both times.
Each of Amad and Rasmus Hojlund came with rising reputations and even bigger price tags.
It will no doubt please Atalanta to hear John Murtough could come knocking again, with a third player from the Serie A side reported to be on Manchester United’s radar.
This time it is a midfielder on Manchester United’s radar, with 24-year-old Ederson catching the club’s eye, according to Goal Brasil.

Manchester United target Ederson
Manchester United are reported to be ‘evaluating a move’ for Ederson, who signed with Atalanta in summer 2022, the same year Hojlund signed from Copenhagen.
Atalanta spent around £12 million to sign Ederson from Salernitana, who had bought him from Brazilian club Corinthians just months earlier.
Ederson actually began his career at Desportivo Brasil, Manchester United’s former partner club in the South American country.
The 24-year-old is a central midfielder who has played 23 times for Atalanta this season, scoring five goals.
On Manchester United’s interest, it is claimed contact has been made for his representatives, with the report stating: “The possibility of investment is discussed internally, but the midfielder’s staff has already been contacted so that information could be gathered by the English. The situation may progress in the coming days.”
Atalanta won’t sell cheap
We suspect that if this deal does happen, it would be one for the summer. This is because Manchester United are strapped for cash right now.
If money was to become available, a striker is thought to be a priority, although one report from The Guardian did claim United ideally wanted four incomings, including two midfielders.
Atalanta won’t sell cheap, and that is an issue. Ederson is under contract until 2026, and the Italian club have proven they can get more than their money’s worth out of Manchester United.
His former clubs in Brazil would also be entitled to a small cut of the transfer fee.
