Manchester United are making progress with a move for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos – according to reports.
Manchester United are on a hunt for a backup goalkeeper, following the Tom Heaton injury and numerous reports that Dean Henderson is going to be sold by the club.
It’s no secret that the Red Devils are short of funds and have been trying to seek out a cheaper option than that of Andre Onana who arrived for big bucks earlier this summer.
Saying this, United have apparently made a bid for a player who believes he could challenge for the starting XI.

Manchester United bid for Odysseas Vlachodimos
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Odysseas Vlachodimos has received an official offer from Manchester United.
According to the journalist, there’s already a ‘verbal agreement in principle’, with the player looking to sign a contract at Old Trafford until 2028.
The price valuation is believed to be around £12.8m (€15m).

It is also believed that Erik ten Hag wants him but there’s no final decision as Turkish keeper Altay Bayindir is also in the race.
Plettenberg finally states that Vlachodimos would be ready to challenge Onana for the number one spot. Nothing like a good bit of healthy competition.

Vlachodimos or Bayindir
In all honesty, we think we may end up getting both.
Bayindir looks like a very competent cheap option, whilst Vlachodimos would provide excellent cover in many of the cup competitions and could even challenge for a starter slot.
Onana could also now be heading for the African Nations Cup in January, while Dean Henderson is expected to leave.
The ultimate question, however… can either of them play midfield?
