Manchester United face a huge decision at goalkeeper this summer with David de Gea‘s contract set to expire.
No agreement has been reached with the Spaniard, and considering we are at mid-March, the writing may be on the wall for the long-serving stopper.
De Gea was criticised by manager Erik ten Hag last week against Real Betis for his poor kicking, with the manager saying he ‘can’t ignore it’.
One of the potential replacement options being considered is reported to be Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, The Athletic reported earlier this season.

Diogo Costa impresses in Champions League
Diogo Costa impressed last night for Porto in their Champions League exit against Inter Milan. He kept a clean sheet at the Dragao in a 0-0 draw. It was not enough to prevent them going out 1-0 on aggregate.
Costa made five saves while completing 80 per cent of his passes. His distribution is part of what sets him apart, making 10 throws up field in last night’s match.
The 23-year-old Portugal number one is viewed as a modern goalkeeper who can revolutionise Manchester United’s play, in the same way Alisson and Ederson have made an impact at Liverpool and City.
Portuguese newspaper CM Jornal even claimed last year that United have enquired to ‘reserve’ Costa for the summer, asking to be directly told about any competing interest in the shot stopper.
Late last year he signed a new contract at Porto, with a release clause – reported by Fabrizio Romano to be 65 million.
While this is a big amount to spend on a goalkeeper, it could be a shrewd investment if Costa becomes United’s number one for the next decade.
United fans impressed
Manchester United supporters hailed Diogo Costa’s performance, using social media to praise the goalkeeper.
