The number of left-backs linked to Manchester United since Luke Shaw suffered an injury is well into double figures.

There is a rapidly increasing number of left-backs being linked to Manchester United. Either the club are casting their net far and wide, or agents around Europe are sensing a big payday.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is one prominent name linked, via Marca. But a new name to add to the list is Roma ace Leonardo Spinazzola.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports Manchester United have enquired over Spinazzola’s availability.

Leonardo Spinazzola has bounced back from injury

Leonardo Spinazzola was an integral part of Italy’s success at Euro 2020, rivalling Luke Shaw as one of the two best left-backs at the tournament.

The Sun reported how UEFA data showed Spinazzola was the fastest player at the tournament.

But bad luck would later befall the exciting full-back, he suffered a torn ACL which caused him to miss most of the 2021/22 season.

Spinazzola, now 30, did make a successful comeback last season for Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

He made 39 appearances in total, 27 of which were starts, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

Di Marzio reported that Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab had made an offer to the defender in recent weeks, but as it stands, he remains a Roma player.

Frenetic week ahead at United

Manchester United are expected to conclude the signing of goalkeeper Altay Bayindir shortly. Fenerbahce teammate Fred accidently ‘confirmed’ the move.

A move for a left-back, loan or permanent, appears to be a high priority, United need to get something done with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both out injured.

Then there are additions required in midfield, and then possibly a new centre-back and another striker.

The past month has shown a lack of urgency in the market. This coming week could be a busy one.
