Manchester United have an interest in Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who has enjoyed a prolific season for his club.

Italian agent Mario Cenolli has told TV Play that Manchester United have ‘requested information’ about Lautaro Martinez’s availability.

United have been tentatively linked to Lautaro Martinez for years. La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed there was interest prior to the World Cup.

Martinez had a disappointing World Cup, failing to score, although he did have offside goals ruled out. He has enjoyed a far more successful campaign at club level.

Lautaro Martinez can catch Manchester United’s eye

Lautaro Martinez has scored 27 goals this season for Inter Milan, with 21 in Serie A. There could be more to come.

Martinez will feature this Saturday in the Champions League final against Manchester City, where he can become a real Manchester United fan favourite if he scores the winner.

A big performance could intensify United’s desire to sign the striker, who at 25, may feel the time is right for a new challenge.

Martinez has been a consistent performer for Inter since signing for the club in 2018, now sitting on 102 goals.

Paul Scholes is a big fan. Earlier this season he told BT Sport he would prefer Martinez over both Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane.

He explained: “I like Lautaro Martinez. I think he’s Ten Hag’s type of player, [who will] run about, be aggressive, go against people.”

With Osimhen probably too expensive, and Kane potentially blocked by Daniel Levy, it makes sense for Manchester United to at least be exploring what Martinez’s situation is.

The Mail has reported Martinez has a release clause of around £100 million in his contract, which runs until June 2026.
