Manchester United boost over £60m transfer target as club eye replacement option

It is no secret Manchester United will be looking to sign a new centre-back or two this summer.

Lisandro Martinez has barely played over the past 12 months due to injury, while Victor Lindelof‘s contract is set to expire.

Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane are both now over 30. Manchester United need to get younger at the position, and many would argue – better.

Varying players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, one of which is centre-back Gleison Bremer.

Now, it appears Manchester United have received a boost in pursuit of the Brazilian.

Manchester United have been named as a frontrunner to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

Calciomercato reported three weeks ago that Manchester United are strongly considering a summer for the defender.

Juventus would demand a fee of around £60 million for the 26-year-old.

Bremer is not a young player, but he should be approaching his peak years. He’s not over the hill either.

And a player like this may actually be preferable to signing a 20-year-old, who may struggle with the expectation and intensity which comes with a move to Manchester United.

The best solution, finances permitting, would be to sign a ready-now player like Bremer, and a younger prospect too.

Juventus preparing for Bremer exit

Now, according to more reports stemming from Italy, Juventus are making plans for Bremer’s potential exit this summer.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has picked out Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori as their first choice defensive target this summer.

This early acceptance that they may have to replace Bremer is good news for Manchester United.

Last summer United looked to Serie A for deals, landing Andre Onana from Inter Milan and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

Ultimately, neither side put up much resistance, and if Bremer turns out to be Manchester United’s chosen option, then the signs are looking good.
