Manchester United won’t have given up on signing Elliot Anderson just yet, despite a deal looking incredibly difficult to complete.

It hasn’t been a secret that Manchester United’s premium midfield target for this summer has been Elliot Anderson.

The signing hasn’t felt attainable for a while, with Forest’s £125m asking price for Anderson not likely to be affordable.

But recent events might have just reopened the door for United to sign the standout midfielder on the market this summer.

How would YOU spend Man United’s rumoured £250m transfer budget?💰

Would you go big on the midfield, or should United spread out the budget?

Manchester United could still make Elliot Anderson swoop

Man City looked like Anderson’s first choice this summer; however, with Pep Guardiola set to depart, there is a feeling this could throw things up in the air.

City still feel confident of signing Anderson despite Guardiola leaving, but Enzo Maresca might have something to say about that.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Enzo Fernandez is one of City’s key targets this summer, with Maresca keen to reunite with him.

The report claims that internal talks have already taken place, with the two Enzos sharing a very trusting relationship.

So if Maresca pushes for a £100m plus deal for Enzo Fernandez, City won’t also be able to sign Anderson.

This opens the door for United to step up the chase and potentially even get a free run at Anderson.

Manchester United should force Anderson to make a decision

TeamTalk have claimed that City are looking to wrap up the deal to sign Anderson before the World Cup begins in just over three weeks.

But United should capitalise on the uncertainty over who City will target and submit a bid for Anderson on Monday.

The £125m valuation is ridiculous, but United should be looking to bid closer to £80m as a first offer and force the transfer saga to begin.

Anderson might still choose to wait for City, but at least United wouldn’t be waiting around, because in this event, alternatives can be considered instead.

United can’t afford to waste time this summer, but if a deal around £100m for Anderson can be done before the World Cup, Ineos need to be all over that.
