Everybody knows the bulk of Manchester United’s squad does not fit Ruben Amorim’s style of play which is why the Red Devils are set to make several changes.
If United’s owners can offload players, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have more room to operate while complying with the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability (PSR).
And although the club will need more than just one window, it seems work is already underway to bring in the targets their manager needs.

Man United scouting Francisco Trincao and Xavi Simons
Likely to need a new attacker once Antony’s loan move to Real Betis is confirmed, Amorim has eyes on two Champions League stars.
According to TBR Football, United scouts were in attendance for RB Leipzig’s 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.
As the highlights show, neither Trincao nor Simons were among the game’s goalscorers, but both players enjoyed good performances, especially Trincao, who, despite his side losing, was voted Man of the Match.
Here is how Simons and Trincao’s stats compare this season:

Benjamin Sesko, who has been a long-time target for several clubs, did get on the scoresheet but his price tag makes a transfer to Old Trafford unlikely.
United will face the same issue with Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international was Amorim’s main man at The Lions but when the time does come for him to leave Portugal, Sporting will rightfully demand a significant fee.
Trincao prolific under Ruben Amorim
Although Simons was watched closely, it was his opponent United’s recruitment specialists were really there for.
United have been monitoring Trincao for several months and are obviously continuing to keep tabs on the Portugal international.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent two-and-a-half years under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.
| Trincao under Amorim at Sporting | Statistic |
| Apps | 131 |
| Goals | 31 |
| Assists | 25 |
| Yellow cards | 5 |
| Red cards | 0 |
Proving he knows how to operate in Amorim’s notoriously fast-paced and demanding 5-3-2 system, Trincao could be a potentially shrewd signing.
Not only would the forward feel like he has unfinished business in England after a disappointing spell with Wolves a few years ago, but with less than 18 months left on his contract, would be a much cheaper option to some of Europe’s other attackers.
