Man Utd prepare offer for £33.5m-rated Lens star Mamadou Sangaré

Manchester United are reportedly ready to join the race to sign Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré.

It’s early days in the summer transfer window, but Manchester United have already reached an agreement to sign Ederson.

While Ederson’s acquisition will help strengthen the midfield, United need more quality additions to ensure that Michael Carrick’s team improve this coming season.

United are stepping away from Elliot Anderson due to Nottingham Forest’s asking price. On top of that, West Ham want £85m for Mateus Fernandes. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ineos are eyeing up cheaper alternatives in the market.

Man Utd join race for Mamadou Sangaré

Lens were one of the most impressive teams in France last season, finishing second in Ligue 1 and winning the Coupe de France for the first time in their history.

That has led to an array of exits as captain Adrien Thomasson completed a move to Stade Rennais and Allan Saint-Maximin has departed as a free agent.

According to Foot Mercato, Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré could join those players by leaving the club, with United interested in the Mali international.

Sangaré has played a key role in Lens’ resurgence by anchoring the midfield with aggression as well as an impressive range of passing.

The French publication claims United are interested in the Malian and are preparing an offer, despite there being as many as 10 clubs in the race for Sangaré’s signature.

Liverpool are an example of another Premier League club to be linked with Sangaré, as per The Telegraph.

It is understood that Lens want €40m (£33.5m) for Sangaré, which makes the 23-year-old significantly cheaper than the other options on United’s radar this summer.

Mali remains unrepresented in Man Utd’s all-time appearance records

No Malian player has ever made a first-team appearance for United.

Although United have a rich history of signing players from Africa, none have come from Mali.

United have been linked with Malian players in the past such as Amadou Haidara and Yves Bissouma.

It remains to be seen if Sangaré can make history by completing a transfer to United.
