Manchester United are in the market for a midfield addition this summer and one La Liga talent could now be of interest.
Much of Manchester United’s focus is on attacking signings, but Ruben Amorim also wants additions in other areas.
Reports earlier in the summer window suggested that United want to sign a midfielder, but preferably on loan.
Finding a midfielder with the quality to improve United while also being available on loan is not going to be easy.
Reports suggest that Juventus could offer Douglas Luiz to United in exchange for Jadon Sancho.
That may be appealing, especially given Luiz’s Premier League experience, but another target appears to be on the radar.

Manchester United linked with swoop for Valencia’s Javi Guerra
Reports in September 2023 suggested that United were keen on Valencia’s Javi Guerra, who had emerged as a real talent in Spain.
Guerra joined the Valencia ranks from Villarreal in 2019 and has now emerged as a first-team star.
The 22-year-old has now made 89 La Liga appearances, notching eight goals and four assists.
Guerra has played in a wide range of midfield roles, as well as operating in an attacking position, just off the striker.
A truly versatile midfielder, Guerra has major potential for the future, and United are being strongly linked.
Calciomercato reporter Daniele Longo claims that Guerra is ‘close’ to joining United, though no other details are highlighted.
Guerra has certainly been on United’s radar in the past, but Valencia are unlikely to let him leave on loan right now.
A permanent deal would be needed, but United need to focus funds on Mbeumo before selling players and exploring other positions.
Valencia set to offer new deal to Javi Guerra
A twist arrived just moments after Longo’s claim, as Hector Gomez of Tribuna Deportiva reported that Valencia will now offer Guerra a new contract.
It’s even claimed that Valencia’s CEO of Football Ron Gourlay will personally make the offer to Guerra.
Gourlay’s name may ring a bell for United fans, given that he worked in a senior role at Old Trafford before heading to Chelsea.
Gourlay went on to succeed Peter Kenyon as Chelsea’s chief executive and now finds himself at Valencia.
Gomez suggests that United do want to sign Guerra, but the midfielder is interested in staying put and wants to hear Valencia’s offer.
That suggests that a deal isn’t imminent, but could materialise in the coming weeks if Valencia’s offer isn’t quite to Guerra’s liking.
