Manchester United are likely to completely revolutionise the midfield this year, with one super-talented youngster continuing to be watched.
Ruben Amorim’s team has improved a lot over the past 12 months, but 2026 could see a complete transformation, with plans to transform the midfield.
Manchester United’s 2026 wishlist is dominated by midfielders, with cheaper options being considered for January, and game-changing targets pinned for the summer.
You have £100m to spend on a midfielder – who are YOU buying, Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton?
Or is there another realistic player you would sign instead? Let us know who!
However, now, as the January transfer window gets underway, United’s list of targets is emerging.
One young talent linked with the club has now once again emerged as a possibility, with Ineos watching closely.

Manchester United keeping an eye on Christos Mouzakitis
This season has seen a long list of midfielders linked with United, among them has been the Greek superkid Christos Mouzakitis.
Interest has been around for almost a year, but last month it was claimed in Greece that United had made a bid for Mouzakitis, although not enough to convince Olympiacos to sell.
Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler has now claimed that United scouts are keeping a close eye on Mouzakitis.
SHOULD Manchester United be signing Christos Mouzakitis in 2026? 🇬🇷
Or is he not what Ruben Amorim needs?
The report ranks Mouzakitis as the second-best wonderkid in world football heading into 2026, with his style being compared with former PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.
Back in 2018, according to The Sun, Jose Mourinho wanted United to spend £75m on Verratti, and now eight years later, he could arrive in the form of Mouzakitis.
The youngster turned 19 on Christmas Day, with his ability to dictate a game seen as rare in a player so young, with a fight expected for whoever claims his signature.
Mouzakitis would be a coup for Manchester United
Over the past few years, Manchester United have signed a handful of young players with potential to be elite, and Mouzakitis would fall into this bracket directly.
Mouzakitis won the Golden Boy web award vote for 2025, showcasing how highly rated he is within the footballing world, and there is sure to be a long list of interested clubs, with Real Madrid among them.
Signing the Greece international would be a statement, in that with a player of this quality in midfield, United would almost be forced into playing good football, as his style of running the show would mean lots of possession.
Spending around £35m on Mouzakitis would be an excellent investment and potentially the perfect player to be signed to play a lesser role for six months before kicking on next season.
Links from reputable UK sources are exciting and indicate a move might really be on the cards.
