Man Utd increase interest in forward, he could beat Marcus Rashford’s best-ever Premier League season

Manchester United’s activity in the January transfer market is beginning to ramp up. The Red Devils could be one of England’s busiest clubs between now and the end of the window.

Rumoured to be open to multiple sales, United could even sell Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho to comply with the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability (PSR).

It is another player who is making the most headlines though.

After being told he can leave on loan, Marcus Rashford wants to join Barcelona, and although a lot still needs to happen before an agreement can be reached, United’s owners are already considering the forward’s potential replacement.

Man United-linked Bryan Mbeumo could better Marcus Rashford’s best-ever season

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has been included on United’s transfer shortlist.

The 25-year-old continues to impress at the Gtech Community Stadium and has caught the attention of multiple clubs, including Tottenham and Arsenal.

United are also in the mix though, and, if they can offload Rashford, may look to Mbeumo as the ideal attacking replacement.

The Cameroon international is enjoying a fantastic campaign under Thomas Frank. He is just four league goals short of equalling Rashford’s best-ever Premier League season at Old Trafford (2019-20), and has 10 more games to do it in.

Regardless of what window he moves in, Mbeumo is set to become Brentford’s record sale. The 25-year-old’s future transfer will almost certainly surpass Ivan Toney’s £40 million move to Al Ahli last summer.

Could he be on the move to United though, and would he really be a better option for Ruben Amorim than Rashford?

The numbers don’t lie, Mbeumo would be upgrade for Ruben Amorim

Even though Mbeumo wouldn’t join with superstar status, he is arguably one of the Premier League’s most underrated forwards.

Not only is he two years younger than Rashford (27) but the consistency of his performances is considerably better.

Mbeumo has been playing in England’s top flight since he joined the Bees from Troyes in 2019.

He has had three full seasons in the Premier League and has reached double figures for direct goal involvements in all of them. Comparatively, during the same time, Rashford has managed to do the same thing in just one of those campaigns (2022-23).

The United winger’s time at the club looks to be coming to an end, and although his next destination remains a mystery, one thing is for sure, Brentford’s Mbeumo would certainly be a worthy replacement if that’s the direction Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to move in.
