Man Utd could sign ‘spectacular’ £29m gem, he’s exactly like key player Ruben Amorim had at Sporting

The January transfer window is fast approaching for Manchester United and Ineos.

After a busy summer, Ineos would be forgiven for a quiet January – but market opportunities could dictate a need for Dan Ashworth to be busy.

Similar to how Leny Yoro was too good to refuse – now Manchester United have the chance to sign some wonderkids in January.

Sunderland’s Chris Rigg looks destined for the very top and could be available in January – while being tipped for a United move by EFL pundits.

Sverre Nypan is another young whizkid United want to sign and looks like the favourite to get this deal done, with the 17-year-old set to decide in December.

Now, United are also looking to add an Argentine – beating Real Madrid and repeating the Yoro swoop in the process.

Manchester United lead Franco Mastantuono race

In terms of his profile, Mastantuono absolutely fits in at Old Trafford with Ineos’ new youth policy.

The incredibly talented Argentine would join the likes of Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone as part of Ineos’ recruitment drive – although would be an instant first-team squad member.

It is according to Argentine transfer guru La Perla, who claims that United hold the most interest in signing Mastantuono and the club has even been in contact with his representatives.

However, he won’t come cheap as the teenager would cost £37.4m with his release clause – which rises to £41.5m for the final 10 days of the transfer window. That being said, it is added that River Plate may discuss the deal for around £29m, assuming this includes bonuses and clauses.

In September, Mastantuono also gave United confidence that a deal could be done despite Real Madrid’s interest.

The price may seem steep but he is an elite talent. Mastantuono scored a goal which the press – namely BolaVip – in Argentina labelled as being ‘spectacular’ on Thursday. Showing exactly why he is so sought after.

Ruben Amorim could be handed a higher-ceiling version of Francisco Trincao

So with United clearly holding an interest in signing Mastantuono, the question becomes where would he fit in for Ruben Amorim.

That question is easier than expected though, as he shares some real similar traits with one of Amorim’s key men at Sporting Lisbon. Francisco Trincao is ranked by FBRef among the most similar players to Mastantuono – and it is easy to see why.

Mastantuono vs Trincao

This makes it obvious that Mastantuono would likely be utilised on the right side as the inside forward/number 10 hybrid there, alternating with Amad Diallo.

Mastantuono may be similar to Trincao, but if both reach their full potential then the Argentine will be better.

This would be a statement signing and one worth getting excited by. However, it seems a long way from being done just yet.
