Manchester United have held ‘late talks’ over a move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Ivan Toney is expected to clinch his departure from Brentford before the transfer deadline. The question is over where he will move to.
According to The Independent, Manchester United have held ‘initial talks’ with Brentford over a possible move.
United are also battling Chelsea for a deal for Toney, who have emerged as late frontrunners for the striker’s signature.

Ivan Toney has Saudi offer
Ivan Toney has agreed personal terms with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli over a transfer.
The Mail claim he would be in line to earn a staggering £400,000 per week if he makes the move, however, staying in the Premier League is his preference.
Even so, United or Chelsea would have to offer him a competitive salary to compete with the huge sum he could earn at At-Ahli, who are yet to strike a deal with Brentford.
United’s alleged approach has been to speak to Brentford first. No bids have been submitted and it is claimed the Bees are hoping for a bidding war for a striker whose price has appeared to drop as the window has gone on.
United interest in Toney
Manchester United’s interest in Ivan Toney has been one of the background stories bubbling away in the transfer window. The club admire the forward but have not made him a priority.
United chose to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna instead for £36 million, yet Toney offers something different.
Toney is more direct, and is proven in the Premier League. United lacked a striker of his profile with Rasmus Hojlund out injured against Brighton.
He has also shown an ability to create, setting up Brentford’s goal against United last season and assisting a goal for England at Euro 2024.
Toney has been dropped from the Brentford squad while his future is determined. The Athletic reported United’s interest in Toney in July.
United talks played down
United’s ‘talks’ in Ivan Toney has been played down, via Talksport, who deny discussions have taken place between the clubs.
It is suggested a deal for Manuel Ugarte could be the club’s final major outlay of the transfer window.
