Premier League clubs interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali have all been handed a boost following claims the Italy international won’t be returning to Serie A.
Manchester United have been linked with Sandro Tonali, as Newcastle expect to feel the pinch this summer, as they’re unlikely to qualify for Europe.
New midfielders will be on the agenda ahead of Casemiro’s exit in June. Moreover, Manuel Ugarte’s future is uncertain.
Other midfield targets in the Premier League include Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.

Sandro Tonali not returning to Italy in 2026
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tonali following claims that the respected Italy international could return to his homeland in the summer.
The former Brescia and AC Milan midfield ace joined Newcastle in 2023, and he has taken the Premier League by storm.
Romano said Tonali’s return to the Serie A is considered ‘something absolutely impossible’ due to the fee Newcastle would demand for his signature.
He also added that Tonali is keen to stay in the Premier League.
“My understanding is that Sandro Tonali back to Serie A is something that could happen maybe in the next years, maybe in two, three, four, five years, I don’t know.
“But for this summer, summer 2026 is considered as something absolutely impossible. Why impossible? Because Newcastle would ask for big money and it’s very difficult for Italian clubs to pay I don’t know 90, 100, 110 million euros for a midfielder.
“That would be really complicated. Tonali is a special player but for Italian clubs, financially, that would be almost impossible.
“And also, my understanding is that Sandro Tonali would like to continue in Premier League. Sandro Tonali is happy at the highest level possible in terms of league, and Sandro Tonali would be happy to continue in Premier League.”
Tonali has been linked with other Premier League clubs, too, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City.

Who was the last player Man Utd signed from Newcastle?
The last player United signed from Newcastle was goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Dubravka joined United on a season-long loan in 2022/23, but returned to the Magpies midway through the season.
The last permanent signing was Andy Cole, who switched Tyneside for Old Trafford in January 1995 for a then-British record fee.
It remains to be seen if Tonali will make the move this summer.
