Ruben Amorim’s first game as the head coach of Manchester United has come and gone, with one position clearly needing to be added to.
However, it was far from the dream start for Ruben Amorim as he watched his Manchester United side struggle against Ipswich Town, only managing to draw 1-1.
Despite a disappointing result, Amorim has already pinpointed major problems for United. This is what the United head coach would have wanted, as he insisted there will be some teething problems before he gets the Red Devils ticking.
Amorim has learned a lot about his United squad, however, while he has become aware of some strengths his squad has, one position is now clearly needing an addition.
Amorim has told Ineos of this, and now an interesting option has been linked.

Rayan Ait-Nouri wanted by Manchester United
With the new system now clear, the wing-backs are among the most important players and therefore it was only a matter of time until Amorim identified left wing-back as a problem position.
Against Ipswich, it was highlighted with not much offensive quality coming down the left – while Ipswich were targeting this side defensively.
Now, it has been reported by The Sun that Rayan Ait-Nouri has emerged as a name on Amorim’s wishlist.
United could offer the 23-year-old a substantial pay rise based on his current £33,000-a-week contract. Wolves have a reported asking price of £60m for Ait-Nouri.
This signing would be one which has been a long time in the making, with United interested since 2020. Despite the lofty price tag on Ait-Nouri – it comes with good reason.
Ait-Nouri the perfect Ruben Amorim wing-back
Ait Nouri is reportedly looking for a move in 2025, and in terms of what United are looking for in a left-back, he could be ideal.
The Algerian has been lauded as “extremely talented” by Gary O’Neil via Wolves media.
The 23-year-old is an excellent dribbler and is also very creative, two qualities which would lend themselves well to the left wing-back role under Amorim – this can be seen through his stats on FBRef.
- 2.40 shot creating actions per 90
- 84.6 per cent pass completion per 90
- 2.48 progressive carries per 90
- 2.22 successful take-ons per 90
- 2.40 tackles per 90
Ait-Nouri also raises the physicality levels within the United squad – something that Amorim has made clear he wants to see improved.
An exciting option should United decide to make the move.
