Manchester United are edging closer to making a formal offer to sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
There is no shortage of midfield targets for Manchester United this summer.
Still, it sounds like they are losing ground in the race to sign Elliot Anderson due to Nottingham Forest’s £120 million valuation of the England international.
One alternative option being considered by United is Mateus Fernandes, with West Ham demanding £85 million for his signature after being relegated from the Premier League.

Man Utd bid imminent for Mateus Fernandes
It sounds like Fernandes has become United’s main midfield target this summer.
A deal has been agreed for Ederson with Atalanta, but the Red Devils require extra additions to truly revamp such a crucial area of the team ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
In a fresh update, reliable journalist Ben Jacobs says a ‘formal bid’ from United could soon come for Fernandes.
“Mateus Fernandes, between 80 and 85 million pounds is the ideal number that West Ham would like, but suitors still feel that price might drop,” Jacobs told talkSPORT.
“Arsenal have also looked, Real Madrid have made an inquiry now, and PSG another club to watch too. So, of course, West Ham will welcome all of that interest because they’ll feel that maybe they can get a bidding war, but that price is seen as quite high by a lot of the interested clubs, particularly Manchester United.
“But don’t be surprised if a formal bid is incoming soon by Manchester United for Mateus Fernandes.”
Fernandes’ snub from the Portugal national team for the 2026 World Cup means United can work on the deal immediately rather than having to wait for the tournament to end.
The same cannot be said for Ederson after the 26-year-old was called up to the Brazil squad by Carlo Ancelotti.
