Man Utd are ready to alter their transfer policy to sign £70m midfielder now

Manchester United found a successful transfer blueprint last year, but Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is an understandable exception.

The task of revamping Manchester United’s midfield won’t be easy, considering many of the targets are subject to widespread interest from other clubs.

Take West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as an example. Tottenham are willing to pay £85m for the 21-year-old midfielder, leading to the feeling that United might walk away from a potential deal.

Many of United’s alternative options have Premier League experience, but one name that keeps popping up in the gossip columns is Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni.

Should Man Utd walk away from the Mateus Fernandes deal if West Ham refuse to lower their asking price? 🤔

Man Utd believe Aurelien Tchouameni could make an immediate impact

United prioritised players with Premier League experience last summer.

That was evident with deals for Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who both hit the ground running at Old Trafford, with high expectations for the pair ahead of the 2026/27 season.

According to Flashscore, United have reservations about buying players who don’t have Premier League experience, but they are willing to make an exception for Tchouameni.

The report states that United’s interest in the France international is genuine, with Real Madrid believed to be open to a sale.

It is understood that United believe Tchouameni possesses the pedigree and profile to make an immediate impact, potentially making him an exception to their new transfer blueprint of prioritising players with Premier League experience.

Tchouameni’s future is unlikely to be sorted until after the 2026 World Cup, but that won’t stop speculation in the meantime.

Aurelien Tchouameni contract details

Tchouameni is under contract at Real Madrid until 2028.

According to talkSPORT, the French star is valued by Real Madrid in excess of £70m.

That means Tchouameni could be available at a cheaper price than Mateus Fernandes.

That doesn’t sound excessive for a player who has won the Champions League and World Cup.
