Manchester United’s summer transfer business so far has been encouraging, but there are still positions that need to be reinforced.
Things are looking much better at Manchester United right now after two years of struggles.
Ruben Amorim deserves plenty of credit for the work he has done to turn United around, with this summer seeing massive improvements on the pitch compared to what was seen last season.
United picked up a 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Thursday, which is hugely impressive performance as the Red Devils did almost everything right.
Most encouragingly of this, United won without either Bryan Mbeumo or Matheus Cunha, which shows that Amorim has improved the tools he already had at his disposal.
But the tools aren’t going nowhere as United are only at the beginning of this journey of improvement and United are still likely to make further moves in the market.

Manchester United’s stance on signing Carlos Baleba
This summer, United have a defined list of positions where additions are wanted and among them is a new midfielder.
Amorim is thought to want an athletic midfielder to bolster his options in the middle of the park, this is despite Casemiro rolling back the years for United during pre-season and looking in excellent shape.
Options to strengthen midfield are slim, with massive funds not being directed into the position. However, despite this, Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Carlos Baleba needs to be signed. The Brighton midfielder is viewed as the next big £100m midfielder in the Premier League, with Jason Wilcox set the task to get him by Ferdinand.
Now, speaking to The United Stand, Ben Jacobs has shared his verdict on the chances of this deal happening.
“I think there is a possibility that clubs will come in for Baleba and I know that Manchester United appreciate the player.
“I don’t think anything is developing at this stage because of the valuation that Brighton have. I anticipate Baleba to be more of a story in 12 months time.”
This makes complete sense, with United certainly not willing to break the bank this summer when a striker is the next priority alongside a goalkeeper.
Manchester United should be pre-working on Carlos Baleba deal
While unlikely, there remains a chance United could fund a mega deal this summer with some clever manoeuvering within the transfer market.
Although as if now, it looks highly unlikely that this big signing would be a midfielder, with a new striker expected to cost around £70m.
However, with the ambition showed this summer, and the improvements which are clear from watching the team in action, United could very well be in the market for a big money Casemiro replacement next summer.
So forward planning will be key here and Ineos should be pre-arranging a deal for Baleba so that next summer it is as simple as picking up the phone and it’s done.
United fans want to sign Baleba and with Ferdinand also speaking out and now the reported admiration, it seems like a deal which would be very popular at Old Trafford.
