It is no secret that Manchester United are prioritising a new midfielder in 2026, and already several potential additions have been rumoured to be on the shortlist.
Big names such as Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson will be on the radar for Manchester United, however, they may simply be unattainable due to asking price and also the other clubs likely to enter the race.
United are also considering Angelo Stiller, with the Stuttgart midfielder being a potential cheaper option, however without the Premier League proven guarantee that Ineos have come to want.
Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?
Wolves’ Joao Gomes might be a cheap option for United, with the Old Gold destined for relegation this season and so he will be available cut price.
However, now there are links with a midfielder who could be a guaranteed success for Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United are considering Victor Froholdt
There are so many midfielders in world football who would be upgrades for United, considering the current pair are very unreliable with a near expiry date and could leave next summer, despite Casemiro possibly extending his contract.
After his latest performances, do you want Casemiro to sign a one-year contract extension?
This includes Porto’s Victor Froholdt, with the Danish midfielder now emerging as a name United like, according to journalist Dean Jones speaking on the Ranks FC podcast.
“You know, Man United have been linked. There’s been a couple more tenuous ones. I’d say Man United and Tottenham are probably strongest so far from the Premier League from what I’ve heard.”
“He’s just a player, like, I haven’t seen that much of him personally, but just through transfer reporting, I’ve spoken to people about him and it’s like a no-brainer.
“People are like, it’s a no-brainer. He’s almost fail-proof.”
Froholdt is far from a sure thing for United, with the 19-year-old still largely unproven, despite shining for Porto this season in Portugal.
Who is Manchester United target Victor Froholdt?
As far as breakout talents in Europe go, this season Froholdt is right up there alongside anyone else.
Having only joined Porto in July from FC Copenhagen, he is having no problem raising his game in a tougher league and also has become a regular for the Danish national team.
As a player, Froholdt is excellent at winning the ball, but also shines when he has it. The teenager is creative with his passing and ball carrying, making him the profile Amorim wants in a player who can take the ball and dictate the game.

Froholdt has it all as a modern day midfielder needs to, however, he would probably be more fitting as a Bruno Fernandes or Kobbie Mainoo replacement rather than for Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte.
The Dane is athletic, powerful and ticks every box Amorim has for his midfielders, whether that means he will be targeted is another thing.
