Man Utd in contact with Casemiro over new contract, with ‘drastically reduced’ terms

Casemiro’s contract at Manchester United is set to expire in the summer but the Brazilian has proven to be a key player this season.

The 33-year-old midfielder joined up with the Brazil squad for the November international break this week, but Casemiro remained quiet on his future at Manchester United when questioned.

Casemiro’s contract expires in 2026, but United do have an option to extend by a year. The issue, though, is that Casemiro is United’s highest earner on a wage of around £350,000 per week.

This season, United have been reliant on Casemiro in midfield. Ruben Amorim’s side tends to collapse when the five-time Champions League winner is taken off.

Many fans expected Casemiro to leave in 2026, but his resurgence in form has led to fresh contract talks.

Man United stance on new Casemiro contract

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has spoken exclusively to United in Focus about Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford, and revealed that contact has been made over a potential extension.

Bailey states that Casemiro’s attitude and commitment is appreciated by United, and the Brazilian is still viewed as a good fit for the squad.

After his latest performances, do you want Casemiro to sign a one-year contract extension?

“Casemiro is a stabilising figure within the United squad, he is one of the pillars under Ruben Amorim – who trusts him,” Bailey said.

“I’m told Amorim would be open to him staying, and if Casemiro is ready to take a drop in salary and work with United on a deal, it is not inconceivable that he stays.

“There are certainly others within the midfield department who Amorim would prefer to move on ahead of Casemiro.”

United have made contact with Casemiro’s camp and floated the idea of a contract extension. Casemiro is receptive to the idea of staying, but the club have made it clear that the terms of a deal would have to be very different to his current contract.

Ideally, United are looking at a performance-based deal with a drastically reduced contract that has substantial appearance fees built in.

Both sides are yet to finalise any figures, but talks have been positive with both player and club willing to find an agreement. Casemiro’s data continues to impress staff, which is another reason his stay is being considered.

Saudi Pro League clubs ‘remain keen’ on Casemiro

Casemiro was being linked with Saudi clubs back in January, and reports of a move spilled over to the summer transfer window.

However, Casemiro made it clear he wanted to stay and rejected an approach from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr side.

It was understood that Casemiro believed staying at Old Trafford gave him the best chance of making the Brazil 2026 World Cup squad. His form this season suggests he has a strong chance of being involved in the tournament.

A move after the World Cup was not ruled out, but clearly, United are now open to keeping Casemiro around for 2026/27.

Bailey has revealed to United in Focus that Saudi Pro League clubs “remain very keen” on signing Casemiro, but they emphasise that he is not a top target in 2026.
