Manchester United have narrowed their goalkeeper search down to signing either Emiliano Martinez or Senne Lammens.
With just hours to go until the summer transfer window slams shut, Manchester United are working hard behind the scenes to sign a new goalkeeper.
Ruben Amorim has defended Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir this season, but their error-filled performances mean that signing a new goalkeeper is a top priority.
After having a loan offer rejected earlier this summer, United have revived interest in Martinez. Reports suggest Martinez has agreed personal terms, meaning the final hurdle is to agree a fee with Aston Villa.
However, Senne Lammens has been United’s top target throughout the summer, and he is also the cheaper and younger of the two options.

Supporters have been giving their opinion on social media, and while the fans are split, there does appear to be a favourite between Lammens and Martinez.
“Lammens or Martinez? I’d be happy with both for different reasons. Lammens should be brought in to develop but will be an untold amount of pressure from day 1, which won’t be easy. But clearly he’s a top prospect. Martinez, while he does make his own errors, lives for that pressure and is probably the only GK that’s available who can come in and thrive off it. Difficult decision to make,” said one fan who summed up the debate.
But it was Lammens who appeared to be the favourite: “Watch, we’re going to get Martinez; which will fund Villa to get Lammens and then Lammens will turn out to be the better keeper. It’s the history of Manchester United,” another fan wrote.
“Emi Martinez made more errors leading to goals last season than Andre Onana, comes with nothing more to prove and far more baggage and attention than we need. Senne Lammens is inexperienced but has a very high ceiling and would be cheaper. I think we’ve gone the wrong way,” said another.
Others kept their opinions short and sweet: “Lammens, we will regret buying Martinez”.
Another fan wrote: “Signing Martinez over Lammens is like signing Ugarte over Joao Neves.”

United’s goalkeeping department is in need of an overhaul, with trust in both Onana and Bayindir at an all-time low. Behind them, a 39-year-old Tom Heaton is adored in the dressing room but undoubtedly in the twilight years of his career.
Martinez and Lammens both offer something so different. One is an experienced World Cup winner. The other, one of the most promising, young goalkeepers in Europe. It’s tough to decide what United need most.
There is one situation, however, where United could pursue both deals, with Martinez viewed as a short-term fix before Lammens steps in to become the No.1 later down the line.

However, it hinges on one of Onana or Bayindir leaving on deadline day. Onana has held talks to leave and might force an exit knowing that United want a new No.1.
Alternatively, Bayindir could make a move with clubs showing interest earlier this summer.
