Manchester United defender Raphael Varane would be keen on moving back to Real Madrid, according to reports.
Raphael Varane was missing for Manchester United’s game against West Ham United at the London Stadium due to illness which led to another French defender Willy Kambwala handed his debut.
After starting, and doing well, against Bayern Munich and Liverpool, it was a huge blow for Erik ten Hag to lose the Frenchman and the former Real Madrid defender’s future remains up in the air.
Before the starts in those two key fixtures, the future was looking bleak for Varane as he was not getting game time ahead of Jonny Evans or Harry Maguire at one stage.

Varane’s verdict on Madrid move
Now, according to a report from AS, Varane would be willing to move back to the Santiago Bernabeu if that option is to become a reality in the near future.
The report goes on to say that the Frenchman is no longer happy in England and has been hurt by the decision from Ten Hag to drop him, with the game against Manchester City one of the key reasons behind Varane’s frustration.
Due to David Alaba’s injury, the Spanish side are believed to be assessing their options and the Frenchman looks to be a target.
Crucially, Varane’s salary is not thought to be an issue as the Frenchman, who played in the white of Los Blancos for 10 seasons, would be willing to be flexible with his wages, which could be key for this deal happening.
The only obstacle for Madrid would be Bayern Munich’s interest in the French defender and Thomas Tuchel’s side are reportedly ready to make an offer between £8-13 million.
Varane’s future
With his recent inclusion back into the United first team, the future of Varane now looks uncertain. United and Ten Hag’s stance on the situation is unknown but John Murtough, United’s sporting director, flew to Saudi Arabia recently to build relationships in the Middle East, according to the Daily Mail.
One of the reported topics of conversation was Varane and United may well prefer to sell to the Middle East rather than a European rival.
The report doesn’t state how much it would take for them to sell Varane but it looks a move is in the offing for the 30-year-old defender.
