Manchester United’s chase for trophies might see them miss out on their chase for the striker if Liam Delap interests them because the race is getting hot.
From the moment it came up that Liam Delap was a transfer target for Man Utd, the gauntlet was set for the club due to a simple reason.
Delap’s release clause makes him a no-brainer addition to the team for most clubs in English football and beyond, so United had a tall task in convincing him and needed to move fast.
Another club in the Premier League has now thrown their hat into the stakes out of nowhere but at least there’s a catch.

Everton confirm Liam Delap transfer interest with a catch
Delap has been linked to Chelsea, Newcastle entered the race for signature, but could Everton be the club that eventually wins the race for him?
David Moyes doesn’t think so right now but that hasn’t stopped him from publicly confirming his interest in the Ipswich Town striker.
Everton have Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the books who is coincidentally one of the players United were linked with for a transfer but they’re a club on the ascendancy after Moyes’ appointment.
The ex-Man Utd manager has taken advantage of the wind in his sails and confirmed their interest in Liam Delap ahead of what will surely be a brutal transfer race.
He said: “He would be one who we would certainly have an interest in. I think what he probably has to look at will probably be bigger than what we are. So, we would certainly be interested if he was interested in us. That’s for sure.”
His comments make it clear that there’s a catch of Everton being outside contenders at best in his transfer race but it’s nonetheless a warning to United to move quickly because things can change.
Man Utd need to move quickly
So caught up has everyone been in the sweepstakes for Delap that there’s a certain factor people are missing.
Delap has had only one season in the Premier League so his advisors might tell him to take it easy and take baby steps towards eventually reaching the elite level.
If that’s the case, Everton will suddenly look attractive to him, especially under the coaching of Moyes who’s known to use his strikers well.
Delap will take a look at what Rasmus Hojlund is going through at Old Trafford by making the career jump too soon too quickly and it could turn him off from joining an elite club straightaway.
The more United dither in doing that deal and teams like Everton enter the race, the more are the chances of Delap’s head being turned by factors like this.
The Matheus Cunha transfer has been sealed quickly by all accounts, Delap needs to be next if United are serious about it because the competition there is a lot more fierce than it was for Cunha.
