Getafe are keen on opening talks with Manchester United over the signing of Mason Greenwood after the Englishman has settled well in Spain.

The Manchester United forward joined the Spanish side in the transfer window on a season long loan deal, after the Old Trafford club made the decision that Mason Greenwood would not be returning to the fold.

Since his move abroad, the 22-year-old has been playing regularly and looks to be in confident form after nearly two years out of the game.

It now appears that Getafe are keen on making the loan move for the striker permanent with The Sun reporting that the Englishman is settled in Spain and would be open to a move.

Getafe ready to make their move

The report goes on to say that Getafe are keen to get United to the negotiating table and are hoping that the English side would be reasonable about the fee.

A source reportedly told The Sun: “Getafe have discussed trying to get United round the table so they can make an offer, which they believe could be attractive to United to get Mason off their wage bill.

“The likelier option is United agree for the loan to be extended as they know that Mason is happy and rebuilding his life.

“They know he needs to grow up and want him to do so — and so far the Getafe loan has worked out well for everyone.”

Greenwood’s United future

The United academy graduate has three goals and two assists in the nine games he has featured in for the La Liga side and looks to be back to his confident self.

A move away from Old Trafford would certainly be the best for his development and his future as he attempts to build a future away from the glare and media pressure that comes with being at United.

United might be able to demand a good fee for the forward if he continues to perform well in Spain, which Erik ten Hag could use to reinvest into the squad.
