The Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United is yet to kick off on the pitch but the planning off the field never stops, especially under a new manager.
After spending nearly £200 million on new players under a manager who isn’t here anymore, all eyes will be on the executive team.
They have been brought in for exactly this scenario, which is to keep the ball rolling regardless of who is in the dugout so that the consistency off the pitch is maintained.

However, that doesn’t mean the manager is powerless and will make do with what he’s given. Therefore, plans should be apace to do something in the market.
January is the first chance Man Utd will get to align with Ruben Amorim’s vision and vice verse. David Ornstein has dropped an update on what the club’s plans look like under the new Man Utd manager–

David Ornstein on Man Utd transfer plans
Even though the decision to keep the manager in the summer didn’t age ideally, not many Man Utd fans could have complaints over the transfer business conducted.
More than £100 million was made from sales and a large part of it was invested back into the team to address problem positions with precise decision-making.
Last January, the Ineos team was just beginning to make their mark at Old Trafford after closing the deal for the club so this is the first winter window where they’re properly in.
Ornstein has now now shared what Ineos plan to do in their first proper January window with a new manager in place-
He said: “January has never been a massive window for Manchester United. They mainly focus on the summer. Right now, they are cutting a fine line on financial fair play, PSR, so the money just isn’t really there.
“So, when it comes to transfer spending, it doesn’t surprise me. United have invested heavily and there are lots of good players who they can get improved performance out of.
“Ruben Amorim is renowned for improving players. Maybe they can do a little bit in the market, some players might have to leave. Maybe Antony can be on his way out of the club and free up finances but I think it’ll be a low-key January window for United.”
Man Utd’s ideal January transfer window
As Ornstein says, it is unlikely that United go gung-ho in the January window, especially after a large-scale turnover in staff which also hurts the bottom line.
Amorim is likely to dip into the academy for reinforcements but some contract situation and developments elsewhere mean business is still not out of question.
For example, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are on expiring contracts so Amorim could make the call that he’d rather give their minutes to someone who will be here long term.
Selling themfor a cut-price fee instead of losing them on a free transfer in six months could be shrewd business and that’s not even considering the wages that come off the books.
In addition, United will probably listen to offers for Antony too, if any, so if Amorim can work his magic with Antony, that value could be rehabilitated.
In terms of incomings, there is a clear goalscoring problem at United and there’s a clear solution for it in Randal Kolo Muani provided the terms are palatable.
Despite not being very active, there’s a lot to do in January to optimise and lay a foundation to launch from in the summer.
