Manchester United have confirmed the first major signing of the summer transfer window as Matheus Cunha arrives at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim needs major reinforcements at Manchester United this summer, and the first one has now been confirmed.

United have announced an agreement to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after weeks of speculation.

The Brazilian has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and an agreement is now in place for him to arrive at Old Trafford.

United will pay Cunha’s £62.5million release clause in three instalments as Ineos look to spread out the cost.

Cunha racked up 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League games this past season, emerging as one of the Premier League’s top attackers – as seen in the stats below, provided by Sofascore.

Cunha now joins United and looks set to play a key role as a number 10 in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 approach.

Dan Coombs: I am feeling really positive about the Matheus Cunha deal. He is proven in the Premier League, one of the most impactful players last season. From a creative standpoint, he takes some pressure off Bruno Fernandes, and he will add much-needed goals to the team. Jonny Maze: There is no denying that Matheus Cunha is one of the best players in the Premier League right now and an obvious upgrade on the options currently available. However, this is Manchester United and even the most impressive players are not 100 per cent nailed on successes. Much will rest on whether or not Cunha’s attitude and work rate can match Ruben Amorim’s demands. But on the surface of things, it is a very exciting move.

United lacked creativity and individual ability in the final third, with Cunha representing the kind of player who can unlock a defence as well as cause chaos on the counter-attack. The expectation levels between United and Wolves are huge, and Cunha must make a step up that many have struggled with over the years, but this appears to be the ideal start to the window.

This United side is crying out for creativity and goals and Cunha will provide both. There will be big expectations of him next season, but this is exactly the kind of deal that United should be chasing. To get it done so quickly is also fantastic business!
