The future of Andre Onana at Manchester United remains firmly up in the air this summer.
Despite a new goalkeeper not thought to be in the top three priority signings, the noise around the position at Manchester United suggests otherwise.
Ineos have been considering several goalkeeping options, despite United currently planning to retain Andre Onana beyond this summer, with the past few days really seeing links heat up.
The majority of links have been to Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, who is pushing for a move to United; however, there is little indication to show that a transfer is on the cards.
Other shot stoppers have been linked, such as long-term United target Diogo Costa, who would cost £64m but would be worth every penny as he promises to be the best goalkeeper in the world one day.
However, neither are thought to be Ineos’ choice to replace Onana if he is sold.

Manchester United like Marco Carnesecchi from Atalanta
Signing a new goalkeeper is important, despite Edwin van der Sar backing Onana to improve next season, and now it is emerging in Italy that United have picked his replacement in the event the Cameroonian departs.
The report comes from Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sports Italy, which claims that Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi is the preferred option for United.
This comes as Monaco eyes a move to sign Onana from United this summer, which would see Ineos need a replacement.
It is claimed that Carnesecchi is the option that United are most interested in signing this summer for the number one position, with contacts initiated with his representatives.
In addition, it has been reported by Tutto Mercato that United are ready and willing to pay £34m to sign the Italy international; however, Atalanta would be looking for around £42m in order to sell, which is not a substantial gap.
Who is Marco Carnesecchi?
Carnesecchi is a 24-year-old Italian goalkeeper who currently plays for Atalanta in Serie A and is widely considered to be similar in style to United-linked Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The goalkeeper stands at 6ft 4in and has a result, has incredible box presence, dominating in the air, which Onana at times struggles with.
Last season, Carnesecchi had his breakout campaign, establishing himself as one of his country’s very best number ones, preventing 3.88 goals over the course of the Serie A season.
He also made zero errors leading to goals and made 98 saves with a save success percentage of 74.3 per cent. The Italian appears to be a reliable pair of hands, exactly what United needs after Onana made so many errors last season.
