Hull City re-open talks with Man Utd over Toby Collyer after failed summer move

Toby Collyer has been subject to interest and could leave Manchester United again, just one week after returning to the club from a loan spell in the Championship at West Brom.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United will make any moves in the January transfer window, especially after missing out on Antoine Semenyo to Man City.

Attracting new signings has been made more challenging by the fact that United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday, with the Red Devils currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table.

There was a relationship breakdown when Amorim challenged Ineos following United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road last weekend. He was given his marching orders less than 24 hours later due to his role becoming untenable.

However, before Amorim’s dismissal, Toby Collyer was recalled to United after struggling with injuries at West Brom.

What should Darren Fletcher change for the next game, and what should he keep the same?

The 21-year-old has been out of action since November, when he sustained an injury playing against Birmingham City.

With the team light in midfield, it was thought that Collyer could become an option for Fletcher, or whoever becomes interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Now there’s a possibility that the United academy graduate will leave the club for a second time this season.

Hull City remain interested in Toby Collyer

Collyer had plenty of interest in the summer before the midfielder opted to join West Brom.

The youngster made just 12 appearances due to injury struggles and registered one assist before departing The Hawthorns.

Collyer is still recovering from his latest injury setback, but reports suggest that he could be on the move to another club in the Championship.

According to Hull Live, Hull City are in talks with United over a deal to bring Collyer to the MKM Stadium in a temporary deal.

The Championship outfit failed in their pursuit to sign Collyer on loan in the summer, but they remain interested and hopeful that an agreement can be reached to add him to their squad sooner rather than later.

Collyer can operate as a number six or in a traditional number eight role.

It was suggested in the report that Hull City have been given clearance by the EFL to get the deal done.

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic confirmed on Friday that he wants to sign Collyer on loan, as per BBC Sport.

Former United left-back Brandon Williams signed for Hull City at the start of the season.

The United academy graduate spent 20 months out of football following a loan spell at Ipswich Town during the 2023/24 season.

Williams was later let go by United when his contract expired, but he has been limited to just three appearances this season.

The left-back will be aiming to build on his one Championship appearance for Hull City between now and the end of the season. Otherwise, the Championship outfit may think twice before offering Williams a new deal.

This means Collyer could become teammates with Williams at Hull City.
