How much Man Utd have saved on Ederson transfer fee compared with Atalanta’s 2025 demands

Manchester United have now agreed to sign Ederson from Atalanta this summer as the first signing of the summer.

After weeks of a deal seeming close, Manchester United have now agreed a deal for Ederson pending his medical, as David Ornstein revealed on Tuesday.

United will pay £34.5m for Ederson initially, with a further £4.5m in performance-based add-ons.

It is one of the cheapest deals United have done in recent years, but Ineos might have made him a big money purchase had a deal been pushed through.

Manchester United have got Ederson for £26m less than last summer

United’s interest in Ederson has been long-term, stretching back to 2024, while he was also heavily linked in 2025.

Rio Ferdinand wanted Ederson signed years ago, and now he has his wish, but it has paid off for United to be patient over his signing.

Just last summer, according to Italian outlet FC Inter 1908, Ederson was valued by Atalanta at £60.4m, which they demanded for his signature.

So the £34.5m agreement is a reduction of £26m, highlighting the value that the signing is despite Ederson only having one year remaining on his Atalanta contract.

This sees United get a 42.5% discount on Ederson compared to what he would have cost this time last year, showing that the decision to wait made sense.

What is Ederson’s market value in 2026?

United will be delighted to have secured the arrival of Ederson this summer to kick-start a busy summer with a player who stands out in the data.

Ederson perfectly suits Michael Carrick’s demands of his midfielders, and he arrives for a fee below even his market value right now.

As of early June, Ederson’s transfer value is listed as being £38.8m, which is £4.3m more than United have ended up paying.

If Ederson is a big success and triggers the add-ons, he will have proven to have deserved it.

Ultimately, it is probably as cheap as United will find a midfielder of Ederson’s quality, experience, and age profile in Europe right now.
