Ineos have regained control over United’s wage bill by removing several top earners and by not handing out inflated contracts.
But if United want world-class signings this summer, like Aurelien Tchouameni, they will have to pay world-class wages.
According to Goal, Tchouameni earns just shy of £10.5 million per year, equating to a weekly wage of just over £200,000.
Not only is Tchouameni’s asking price around £70m this summer, but United would likely need to offer a pay rise to Tchouameni to complete a summer deal.
That would immediately place him among the top earners at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes’ £300,000 per week wages currently topping the list.

Fabrizio Romano’s update on Tchouameni to Man United
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, speaking on YouTube, provided an update on United’s interest in Tchouameni, and he claims there are two problems.
“The first one is the huge salary, and the second is that Madrid keeps saying in public and in private that they intend to keep him,” Romano said.
“If you ask me who could be the ideal defensive midfielder for United, at the club they believe that could be Tchouameni, but then the reality is different.

“The negotiations are never easy for such top players like Tchouameni. That’s the status of the story as of today.”
Unfortunately, Jose Mourinho values Tchouameni highly at Madrid, which will make it even more difficult for United to get a deal done.
