How Borussia Dortmund hope to sign Jadon Sancho from Man Utd permanently, dependent on a major sacrifice

Manchester United sent winger Jadon Sancho out on loan to Borussia Dortmund last month.

Jadon Sancho is back in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund after his former club moved to rescue him from his Manchester United exile.

Sancho fell out with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, refusing to apologise to his boss after hitting back at him on social media.

The move to Dortmund is just a temporary solution, although the German club hope there will be a way to make a deal permanent in the summer.

How Dortmund aim to sign Sancho permanently

There are two main factors in play for a Jadon Sancho deal to be done. One of these is to agree a fee with Manchester United.

United will have to take a loss on the £73 million paid to sign the winger, but would still like to recoup as much as possible.

But discussions over a fee are pointless if Dortmund cannot find a way to pay Sancho’s wages, with the winger commanding an exorbitant salary at Manchester United.

According to SportBild, Dortmund are looking for Sancho to make a sacrifice and accept a major pay cut.

The report states: “Dortmund’s only hope: that Sancho will forego a lot of money from the coming season, accept a top salary in the Dortmund region (around ten million euros) and that his desire to move is so great that United would be in favor of saying goodbye to him.

“As with the loan deal, Sancho would then have to push a possible change as hard as possible himself.”

If Jadon Sancho can fit into Dortmund’s wage structure, then there is a chance they might be able to pull together a fee to buy him back.

Dortmund have assets they could sell to raise funds, which could go towards a fee to buying back the winger.

Sancho must prove worthy of investment

A lot depends on how the next few months play out. Will Sancho fall back in love with Dortmund again, enough to want to sacrifice his lucrative United salary, or will the novelty of being back in Germany wear off?

Sancho too must demonstrate he is worthy of substantial investment from Dortmund. He has to prove himself all over again.

He has played three matches to date, two starts and one substitute appearance, with one assist.

This has amassed to 184 minutes of game time, more than the 77 he played for Manchester United early in the campaign.
