Harry Kane has ‘secret release clause’ and he would consider Manchester United switch, claims transfer expert

Manchester United are going to be in the mix to sign Harry Kane if he decides to return to England, it has been claimed.

Heading into the summer of 2023, it was clear Manchester United needed a striker or two. The ideal situation was to sign a proven option, Harry Kane, and then a top prospect like Rasmus Hojlund.

United decided not to fight for Kane, and spent a combined £100 million to sign Andre Onana and Mason Mount instead.

A move for Hojlund was undercut by the huge pressure put upon the Dane, asked to lead the line for the Red Devils at the age of 20.

He has now been sent out on loan to Napoli, and United have signed Benjamin Sesko, 22, instead. Are the same mistakes being repeated?

It’s early days, but there is a case that Sesko could benefit from an experienced striker taking a little pressure off him. And there is a possibility Harry Kane hits the market next summer.

Harry Kane situation

Harry Kane is in his third season in Germany, and won the Bundesliga last season, finally ending the trophy drought that overshadowed his individual achievements.

Kane has unfinished business in the Premier League, and while his former club Tottenham have a sentimental appeal, Manchester United are expected to remain in the mix.

It is claimed Kane has a very affordable release clause in his contract that could come into play next summer.

Ben Jacobs told The United Stand: “Kane has this release clause that was largely kept secret and it’s 65 million euros to my knowledge.

“After the World Cup, there is a realistic chance that Kane returns [to England]

“Does he just want to go back to Spurs and within England anyway be a one-man club within the Premier League or is he prepared to go elsewhere?

“I’m told for Kane, it’s less about would he only go to Spurs or would he consider Manchester United or anyone else, and it’s more about can he go somewhere and break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record.”

Kane scored 41 goals in 51 games for Bayern Munich last season and has scored a total of 98 goals in 103 matches for the club.

Kane chasing records

Harry Kane overtook Wayne Rooney’s tally of 208 Premier League goals before he left for Bayern Munich, taking his personal account up to 213.

He is still short of Alan Shearer’s record of 260, and likely would have broken it already if he stayed at Tottenham or signed for Manchester United.

Kane will be 33 next summer, and there is still time for him to break the record in the Premier League if he returns to England.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is an admirer of Harry Kane, and even if it is a short-term move to help Benjamin Sesko out, there is no doubt that the England striker would be an excellent addition to the Red Devils’ attack.
