Why Manchester United are looking at Harry Kane again and the player they would sacrifice to sign him

Manchester United’s summer plans are beginning to take shape with the number one striker target being named.

This season Manchester United have been incredibly over-reliant on the 21-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund to lead the line, with his last six games showing how good he can be, scoring seven goals.

With little backup, thanks to the ever-injured status of Anthony Martial, Hojlund himself has been played into the ground and has suffered a few injuries as a result.

At such a young age and still being far from the finished product, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen on bringing in a striker to help Hojlund.

According to HITC Football’s report, this could actually come in the form of Harry Kane who the new minority owner is keen on.

United in Focus have now spoken with HITC Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey to understand further why Kane is wanted at Old Trafford.

Why Harry Kane is still an option for Manchester United

After Kane moved to Bayern Munich, many thought this was the end of the – what feels like yearly – Kane to United sagas.

But with Sir Jim and Ineos in charge of the footballing side, they could be set to ask Bayern about Kane, with the England captain seen as a marquee signing.

Graeme Bailey explained: “It’s one of those where Ineos are very clear that they’re not going to force anything on anyone at the club. Sir Jim’s not going to say ‘I want Harry Kane’ and that’s the be-all and end-all. They want a striker and he is the striker, this summer, he’s the ideal option. So what I’ve been told is they’re going to look into it, they like him a lot.

“Ineos as a company as a whole even the cyclists are used to getting what they want so yeah they’ll look at it. No one is saying for certain that it’s going to happen, it’s highly unlikely to happen. Bayern Munich despite their season are loving the work done by Kane but stranger things have happened in football.

“Ineos know United liked him previously, they like him, they think he’d be the marquee signing of the new regime and he’d be able to come in for 2 or 3 years and lead the line, not take the place of Hojlund but help bring him on.

“That’s the way to look at it, it’s not a flash in the pan or a United want Harry Kane, as you know he’s been a long-term target. I think it’s one where Ineos wouldn’t… I think they think they may have given up on him a bit early in the summer, they think there may have been an opportunity there and looking back at the situation maybe there might’ve been.

“If you don’t ask, you don’t get, it’s one of those situations. They’re going to look at it, and make enquiries, if it’s definitely a non-starter he’s not the only player they’re looking at that’s for sure we know that. It’s the way Ineos is going to work.”

Graeme also dropped a claim that United could see a current attacking star leave to facilitate this move.

Manchester United could sacrifice Marcus Rashford for Kane

In a bid to sign Kane, Graeme also explains that it could be Marcus Rashford who departs to make space for the former Spurs forward.

“I am told, if there was any chance of getting Kane, they would sacrifice Marcus Rashford. My understanding is it’s not a great situation [Ten Hag and Rashford].”

This is supported by the fact recent talkSPORT reports have claimed Rashford and Erik ten Hag are barely on speaking terms.

If Ineos make this move it would be a bold one as Rashford has long been viewed as the face of the club, but sub-par performances could be punished showing nobody is safe.
