Manchester United are looking to sign a high profile midfielder, and are likely to look at squad depth too.
With Manchester United ‘super active’ in the hunt to sign midfielders, and others expected to exit the club, a practical way to examine the situation is through a ‘one signs, one leaves’ lens.
For instance, a high profile move for a Manuel Ugarte or Martin Zubimendi would likely come as a direct replacement for Casemiro.
And then an additional midfielder could arrive to potentially replace Christian Eriksen, which is where Sofyan Amrabat could fit back in.

Sofyan Amrabat still being considered
Manchester United have decided the previous option to buy Sofyan Amrabat would not be taken up.
But as Fabrizio Romano explains, the club are open to doing a deal at a lower price. He writes: “Told Man United remain interested in Amrabat and willing to discuss different conditions, as Erik ten Hag likes him.”
Last summer the situation of Sofyan Amrabat dragged on until transfer deadline day. This was not ideal for either club or player.
Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb report Fiorentina have their own targets they want to acquire and are keen to resolve Amrabat’s future.
The report states: “The Red Devils are still evaluating the possibility of bringing Amrabat back to Ten Hag’s orders and are working on two possibilities: the first, the most likely, is a new onerous loan with right of redemption.
“The second is a permanent purchase, but at lower figures than those agreed last summer.
“Fiorentina, for its part, hopes to resolve this exit as soon as possible. And in the meantime, it is working on a new addition to the midfield.”
Amrabat had an inconsistent time at Old Trafford but proved his quality towards the end of the season, demonstrating his use as a squad player, with a starring performance in the FA Cup Final.

Sofyan Amrabat posts training video
Sofyan Amrabat is now ready for his next move, back from holiday, and training alone away from the Fiorentina squad.
He posted to Instagram: “Train insane or remain the same #ready,” along with clips of him working out, a clear hint he is keen to get his 2024/25 season up and running.
Amrabat is included in our rankings of potential Manchester United midfield signings. He is not the most exciting of additions, but he is a proven commodity, one who has spent a year at the club already, who still has something to offer.
He spoke after the FA Cup Final say he planned talks over his future with United, and a deal still looks very possible.
Fiorentina’s desire for a quick sale may yet speed things up, and get the move over the line.
