Fabrizio Romano shares two things Man Utd are waiting for before signing any player, ‘The plan…’

Manchester United will enter the most important transfer market since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, and it’s currently on hold due to two factors.

With four competitions secured next season, Man Utd face a massive task on their hands to be competitive with a deep squad.

Add to that the uncertainty over their managerial position, and it’s clear that Ineos need to provide clarity to potential targets soon.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared that the club are waiting for two things before pushing ahead to sign any player in the summer transfer window.

Man Utd’s summer transfer plans

The central midfield is a clear area of priority, while United are also aiming to strengthen at left-back as well as buy an experienced striker.

Furthermore, exit rumours abound about many of their current squad players, so the budget for player signings will depend a lot on what happens with exits.

United are also one step away from confirming UCL qualification, while Michael Carrick’s future will be decided soon.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has shared that United want UCL football confirmed and clarity on their manager situation before pushing to sign any player.

He said: “At the moment, United have still not decided whether they will go for this player or that. The first step is Champions League football.

“The second step is managerial decision, whether they will appoint Michael Carrick or not. He has very good chances, but only after that will they activate central midfielder options.”

Ineos need to complete these steps quickly

Ineos have been patient with Carrick and that’s admirable, but they also need to get a move on now.

For starters, getting UCL football is a mere formality now, and they would do well to start accounting for Champions League money when approaching targets.

Secondly, it increasingly looks like a matter of when, and not if Carrick gets the job permanently, so once UCL is mathematically secured, that announcement should be made as well.

United can’t afford to go behind their rivals in the race for signings as City already lead Elliot Anderson sweepstakes.

The longer they dither over factors entirely in their control, the more difficult it will be to turn uncontrollable factors in their favour.
