Elliot Anderson’s £125m price tag could complicate big move for Man Utd target

Manchester United are in a race with rivals Man City for the signature of Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson.

It is shaping up to be a huge summer for Manchester United.

The Red Devils will be losing veteran Casemiro, since his contract expires at the end of the season, leading to potential reshuffling in midfield.

This has led to United being linked with Aurelien Tchouameni in recent days, but Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is another player at the top of that midfielder shortlist.

Nottingham Forest want £125m for Elliot Anderson

Anderson has been tipped for a summer move throughout the season, so Forest have been trying to prepare for this moment as well as avoid relegation in the Premier League.

Forest would have a smaller chance of keeping Anderson if they were relegated to the Championship. However, they are also still in contention to win the Europa League after eliminating FC Porto to reach the semi-finals.

However, the biggest problem facing United’s pursuit of Anderson is Man City’s interest. The Red Devils will likely push for a deal until they are told Anderson has his heart set on a particular club.

According to The Athletic, Forest are demanding as much as £125m for Anderson if they avoid relegation.

That fee could explain why we are seeing reports of City and United identifying other midfield options in the market.

There is a slim chance Anderson leaves Forest if Evangelos Marinakis demands £125m this summer.

From a United perspective, a potential £125m deal would take up a chunk of the transfer kitty when Ineos know they need to spend wisely ahead of a season with the team set to compete in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claim City are ahead of United and Arsenal in the queue for Anderson’s signature.

That queue will be much shorter if Forest are serious about their £125m signing. It’s a shame after Ryan Giggs named Anderson as one of two players he’d sign to replace Casemiro.

Anderson could risk missing out on a big move this summer in a similar style to Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton after he was priced out of a transfer to Old Trafford in the past.

Anderson has had an incredible season at Forest on an individual note.

It has been a distressing season in terms of results for Forest, but Anderson has now fully established himself in the England team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

If United were to sign Anderson for £125m, the English midfielder would become the club’s most expensive signing after Paul Pogba.

Pogba joined United from Juventus in a £89m deal back in 2016.

United’s biggest transfer since then saw Antony join from Ajax in a £81.3m deal.
