Manchester United’s transfer window is off to a great start with Matheus Cunha’s signing but the spectre of Jadon Sancho still looms large.

Despite signing Matheus Cunha before the transfer window is even officially open, Man Utd’s financial worries are an open secret.

As such, they desperately need Chelsea to keep Jadon Sancho and pay Man Utd £25 million, which was thought to be a mere formality.

However, so bad was Sancho at Chelsea that the London club explored options to send him back by paying £5 million as compensation.

Fabrizio Romano now has the latest on Jadon Sancho’s future.

Jadon Sancho transfer latest

A player who moved on loan with a mandatory buy option shouldn’t even be the subject of discussions anymore but leave it to Sancho to struggle that badly that it came to the fore.

At least, Sancho scored in the Conference League final so he ends his loan spell at Chelsea by leaving a positive mark.

However, it is still not certain that Chelsea have made a final decision to keep him, with talks ongoing between his camp and the club.

Amidst all these developments, Fabrizio Romano reports that only one factor will see Sancho return to Old Trafford in a nightmare scenario for everyone involved.

He said: “Chelsea remain in contact with Jadon Sancho’s camp over contract terms, still no agreement on salary so far. Final decision will be in few days, outcome expected next week.

“If contract terms are not agreed, Sancho will go back to Manchester United with £5m compensation.”

Chelsea putting pressure on Jadon Sancho and Man Utd

The fact that this update is out through Romano is a clear ploy from Chelsea to put pressure on the player to take a wage cut.

Sancho was reportedly given close to £250k/week when he joined Man Utd, a figure that hangs around the neck of the club like an albatross now.

United are even paying a portion of his wages now, only for Sancho to throw petty digs at the club when he senses an opportunity to do so.

By threatening him with the prospect of a return to United, Chelsea are putting pressure on Sancho to agree to lower wages that his contributions deserve.

Even United will be in panic stations if the agreement is not reached, so they’ll be asking Sancho to concede a bit as well, even if they have to make up some difference in a straight payment.

Getting even £20 million from Chelsea for Sancho is a better option for United right now instead of getting £5 million and remaining stuck with the player.
