Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United ace is a wanted man as reports in Italy claim Victor Osimhen swap talks

Manchester United have already been linked with so many strikers for the summer transfer window, bringing Rasmus Hojlund’s future into doubt.

We had started to believe that Manchester United had turned a corner in front of goal after seven goals across two games against Real Sociedad and Leicester City.

Those two wins sent United into the international break on a high, but Ruben Amorim’s side have struggled for goals since returning to action.

United drew blanks against both Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, again highlighting the need for attacking reinforcements.

Strikers are already being linked with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap a prime target for United this summer.

United are also eyeing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, which raises questions about Rasmus Hojlund.

Italian clubs now chasing Rasmus Hojlund

Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in 2023 and showed promising signs in his first season at the club.

16 goals in all competitions was a decent return for Hojlund, but this season has been much tougher.

Hojlund has only managed three Premier League goals this season and has cut a forlorn figure in United’s attack for much of the season.

The Dane clearly has talent and potential, but there are concerns about his development – and United may well invest in another striker this summer.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Italian clubs are looking at Hojlund with a view to bringing him back to Serie A.

It’s suggested that Serie A teams ‘would be ready’ to start talks for Hojlund if United show any willingness to let him go.

United are therefore left with a big decision; give up on Hojlund now and cash in to reinvest in another striker, or persist with his development moving forward.

Romano doesn’t name any clubs, but money isn’t readily flying around in Serie A and United may well be forced to take a loss on Hojlund if he is sold.

Napoli exploring Victor Osimhen swap

The natural thought process here is Napoli.

Antonio Conte’s side sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain in January and Napoli are likely to sell Victor Osimhen this summer.

Napoli may well have the money to sign Hojlund and make him their new star striker in a post-Osimhen landscape.

In fact, Tuttosport claim Napoli have held talks with United over a deal which would see Hojlund head to Naples and Osimhen join United.

Osimhen is United’s top striking target, and this exchange with Napoli could work out best for all.

A deal would see Hojlund return to Italy, where he showed so much potential with Atalanta, whilst allowing Osimhen to finally leave Napoli on a permanent basis.

Swaps are never easy, though, and there could yet be twists and turns for United as Amorim weighs up the future of his striking position.
