Fabrizio Romano says ‘dream’ Man Utd signing could become ‘complicated’, club think he’s future ‘best in the world’

Manchester United could be priced out of completing one dream signing for Ruben Amorim this summer.

This summer promises to be a busy one for Ineos‘ footballing department, who are making all the big decisions at Old Trafford right now.

Manchester United’s squad could look drastically different come September 1st 2025, after the transfer window slams shut. This is because United could see at least 10 players leave the club, which would be sure to see plenty of arrivals.

It is a transfer window which is vital for United to get right, considering it looks likely that mid-table is the ceiling this season.

After a successful January transfer window, Ineos have won a lot of good faith, and there is plenty of optimism over the work Jason Wilcox could do with six months of planning for the summer.

There are four priority positions United are focused on this summer, with each being key to Amorim’s system.

Tyler Dibling is a dream target for Manchester United this summer

It is no secret that one player wanted by United wanted this summer is Southampton’s star man Tyler Dibling. The 19-year-old is viewed as a special talent, and Jason Wilcox is a known fan of the forward.

However, Dibling is said to be commanding a £100m asking price from Southampton, which Fabrizio Romano has admitted the high demands could prove problems for United, while speaking with Give Me Sport.

“It’s true. It is what Southampton want, there are still two years left on his contract, so we have to see what the player’s position is. There will be talks between the player and the club after this season.

“They believe he is one of the best players in the world in terms of potential in his position. They believe it is not easy to find this kind of talent, this is why Southampton are keen to get this kind of money.”

Romano added that Spurs have made Dibling their number one target, before explaining United’s stance on the teenager.

“He’s also kind of the dream target for Manchester United; he’s a player they like, but he’s very expensive with FFP for United. It all depends on Southampton, if they keep asking for this money, it will be complicated.”

So, with United so keen on Dibling but not willing to pay the fee, it could be that Wilcox and Christopher Vivell will need to be more shrewd in the transfer window.

Jason Wilcox will find Manchester United an option for a fraction of the price

Spending £100m on Dibling would not only go against the recruitment policy being put into effect by Ineos, but it is also remarkably unlikely given the financial constraints.

Therefore, United must be instead looking for cheaper options who fit into the club’s budget and philosophy.

Rayan Cherki is a major option for United to consider, as the Frenchman could be available for relatively cheap despite his immense campaign for Lyon.

United will see Cherki in action in a fortnight during the Europa League quarter-final, and this is precisely the kind of move United should make if he is valued around £20m by the financially ruined Lyon.
