Manchester United will be in the hunt for a striker this summer after another season of shortcomings, especially in front of goal.
Ruben Amorim will have plenty of demands ahead of the January transfer window, but it remains to be seen how much money Manchester United will have to spend on new signings.
The United first-team is lacking quality in a number of positions but Amorim only had the chance to strengthen his defence with two new additions in January, including Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.
United are planning a summer clearout with at least 10 departures on the cards, including four to be released unless Ineos decide to hand contract extensions to Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton. None of those players are likely to be kept.
Ineos chiefs will also hope stars such as Antony and Marcus Rashford can continue to play their way towards permanent transfers whilst on loan. All of this will help United raise funds to pursue Amorim’s transfer targets.
The primary target needs to be a centre-forward because Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled in front of goal in a season that has seen United hit the back of the net just 38 times in 32 Premier League matches.

Manchester United among top contender for Liam Delap transfer
Liam Delap has emerged as a top target for United after an impressive breakout season in the Premier League for Ipswich Town.
Former United coach Kieran McKenna labelled Delap a ‘different beast’ and the Reds are understood to be interested in signing the 22-year-old striker.
The England U21 international has made 34 appearances for Ipswich this season, recording 12 and two assists, which is more than any other United forward during that time.
Moreover, Delap could cost £30 million with Ipswich likely to drop to the Championship this season.
A new update from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the race to sign Delap this summer is being led by United and Chelsea.
Romano backed up claims that United are keen on signing Delap but they face fierce competition from Chelsea. It is also understood that Delap has interest in the Bundesliga.
“It’s between Man United and Chelsea now, both keen on signing the player,” Romano wrote in his newsletter for GiveMeSport. “They’re ahead of Bundesliga clubs.”
This would suggest Ineos are being proactive ahead of the transfer window by doing their homework before the market reopens.
McTominay record proves Man Utd need to fix goalscoring issue
After leaving United last summer, Scott McTominay can gone on to become a star for Napoli, scoring goals from midfield like he did under Erik ten Hag last season.
McTominay came through the academy and proved to be a valuable squad member to every manager he worked under – from Jose Mourinho handing him his debut to starring under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Now, it’s Antonio Conte who is benefiting from having McTominay in his squad.
The Scotland international has continued his goalscoring exploits in Italy and no United player has scored more league goals (8) than him so far this season.
| Player | Premier League goals 2024/25 |
| Bruno Fernandes | 8 |
| Amad | 6 |
| Alejandro Garnacho | 5 |
| Joshua Zirkzee | 3 |
| Rasmus Hojlund | 3 |
Bruno Fernandes has the same amount, but it’s a concerning stat that our forwards are being outscored by midfielders, including one we sold last year.
