Fabrizio Romano claims ‘tension’ surrounding Manchester United loanee in training

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri already finds himself in a sticky situation just weeks after signing for Sevilla.

United have allowed a number of players to move out on loan this month with Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek two notable departures.

Then there is Hannibal Mejbri, who has been sent on loan to Sevilla for the rest of the season.

United have agreed to let Hannibal leave with the option of a £17.2million permanent deal at the end of the campaign.

If Sevilla cough up that fee, United would then have the option to buy Hannibal back for £30million – but the midfielder isn’t off to the best start.

Tension in Sevilla training after Hannibal arrival

Hannibal hasn’t really started well in Andalusia with Sevilla boss Quique Sanchez Flores already ruling him out of first-team action for the immediate future.

Fabrizio Romano has now offered more information, telling Caught Offside that Hannibal’s exclusion is not because of one specific problem.

Romano claims that there has been ‘tension’ in among players in Sevilla training, including Hannibal.

Romano adds that the situation is ‘all good now’ and but Hannibal has entered an uneasy situation because Sevilla are in a battle against relegation from La Liga.

Sevilla surely wanted Hannibal to make a big impact in their battle against the drop but he seemingly needs to turn things around quickly to make that happen.

“My understanding is that it is not a specific incident. There was some tension in training between some players and Hannibal too, but everything has been clarified and Hannibal spoke directly to the manager to keep the situation quiet,” said Romano.

“It’s all good now, though it’s obviously in not easy in general at Sevilla because their season has been horrible. They remain just a point above the relegation zone in La Liga,” he added.

Hannibal season hasn’t gone to plan

Hannibal looked set to enjoy a fine campaign when he scored a lovely strike in United’s defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion in September.

The Tunisia international earned major praise just weeks later after shining against Burnley and it looked like Hannibal would go from strength to strength.

Instead, Hannibal has struggled for playing time and played just 94 minutes of action after being substituted at half-time against Galatasaray in October.

Erik ten Hag seemed to lose faith in Hannibal and this move to Sevilla was supposed to help him get back on track.

This isn’t the best of starts but Hannibal will hopefully kick on and show his quality for Sevilla – potentially earning a way back to United in the process.
