Reports have suggested that Manchester United are prepared to pay the asking price for their top centre-back target, Kim Min-jae.
The South Korean defender was pivotal in Napoli’s Scudetto win this season. In the process he has gained admirers from many of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The club most heavily linked with the 26-year-old is Manchester United. United have reportedly been interested in the defender since late 2022, so a summer attempt is highly likely.
This speculation has been added to as European football journalist Bruno Andrade has insisted Kim Min-jae will move to the Premier League.
“Kim Min-jae is practically a sure name in the Premier League next season.”
He added that the two clubs fighting it out for the Korean’s signature are Newcastle and Manchester United. Further both have reportedly already agreed to pay whatever Napoli want.

United’s need for a centre-back
United’s need for a centre-back is apparent; Phil Jones is departing for free, Harry Maguire looks set to leave and Eric Bailly likely won’t be in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Along with the departures, the last few months shows the importance of depth. Both Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane sustained serious injuries, leaving United short at the back.
Therefore while not the primary need, signing a centre-back is important for the Red Devils.

How Kim Min-jae fits in
The Naples based defender would likely be a straight replacement for a likely departing Maguire. So he probably finds himself second choice initially to Varane.
However, due to the amount of games to play, and his age he likely doesn’t last long on the bench. This made more likely by Varane’s frequent injury issues.
A top player who immediately raises the squads level and the depth in defence. Must buy for Ten Hag this summer.
