Eric Bailly completes move to new club following termination of Besiktas contract

Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has joined a new club following his release from Besiktas earlier this week.

Eric Bailly decided to leave Manchester United following the end of the 2021-2022 season. He had a loan spell at French side Marseille before leaving the club permanently as he completed a move to Turkish side Besiktas.

However, after a poor spell in Turkey, the Ivorian defender saw his contract at the club terminated as he continues to struggle for consistency since his departure from Old Trafford.

The injury-prone defender failed to make the grade at Old Trafford as his unusual way of playing and his rather ridiculous antics on the pitch meant he couldn’t be consistently relied upon at United.

Bailly’s new club

Well, the Ivorian defender has completed a move back to one of his former clubs as he announced that he has signed with Villarreal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the defender has signed a two-year contract at the La Liga side and it’s a good move for the Ivorian as he goes back to a team where he had consistent game time.

At United, Bailly believed that the English players received more game time than he did at the club. “The club should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance,” the Ivory Coast centre-half told The Times after he left United.

This swipe looked to be aimed at Harry Maguire but the reality is that the Englishman got his head down and worked hard to win his place back in the first-team, something that Bailly did not do.

It was the right time for the 29-year-old defender to leave the club and he will now hope to make a good impact during his time at the La Liga club.

Bailly symptom of United problematic years

There was no questioning the quality of Bailly, that block against Aston Villa that kept United’s lead in-tact and sent the Red Devils top of the Premier League being the obvious example.

However, speaking publicly on United and throwing dirt on the club for how they treat their players certainly does not help anyone and sounds like sour grapes.

Letting Bailly go, eventually by terminating his contract was the right idea. There remain a few players at Old Trafford who have to go, however.
