Besiktas confirm Eric Bailly decision after Manchester United exit

Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been spectacularly banished by Besiktas following a 3-1 defeat to rivals Fenerbahce.

Several players moved on from United over the summer, many of whom just needed fresh starts elsewhere.

David De Gea moved on at the end of his contract whilst Fred headed off to Turkey with Fenerbahce.

Eric Bailly made the same move after the English transfer deadline, joining Besiktas having spent last season on loan at Marseille.

Besiktas announce Eric Bailly axe

Bailly landed a one-year deal in Turkey but it has all gone wrong for him.

The Ivorian started is now one of five players who have been ‘excluded from the squad’ following a statement by Besiktas.

Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana have joined Bailly in being exiled from the first-team squad.

Besiktas claim that ‘poor performance and incompatibility within the team’ are the reasons for them being axed.

These decisions come just two days after a 3-1 home defeat to rivals Fenerbahce, in which Bailly played the full 90 minutes.

Bailly’s time in Turkey a disappointment

Just three months after arriving in Turkey, it looks Bailly is already finished at Besiktas.

The truth is that the 29-year-old never really got going following his Manchester United exit.

Bailly suffered shoulder, neck and hamstring injuries with Besiktas, limiting him to just five league starts.

This was supposed to be the move to get Bailly back on track after struggling to live up to the £30million price tag Jose Mourinho paid to bring him to United.

Bailly had shown quality in fits and starts but injuries held him back, meaning Erik ten Hag was happy to let him go in September.

It now seems likely that Bailly will be on the move again in January, with his Besiktas move proving to be something of a disaster.
