Manchester United’s interest in signing Aurelien Tchouameni has come out of nowhere, but has quickly become the club’s top transfer target.
The Real Madrid and France international is a class above the calibre of midfielder that Manchester United were expected to be looking to sign this summer.
Unlike other targets, Tchouameni is a midfielder in his prime years and has performed at the highest level for Madrid and his nation.
It would be a massive upgrade for the United midfield, replacing the outgoing Casemiro with a player ready to win now if surrounded by the right pieces.

Andy Mitten shares what Manchester United are saying about Aurelien Tchouameni
When Andy Mitten claimed United were looking at midfielders in Spain, few would have thought signing Tchouameni was actually feasible.
But earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting Tchouameni was an option for United. This has since been furthered by the likes of Simon Stone with the BBC and Simon Peach, two of the most reliable when it comes to transfer news.
Now, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Mitten has spoken about the current stance coming from United when asked why Tchouameni was a target.
“Because he has the quality to play in the position to replace Casemiro.
“Because Manchester United understands that he might be gettable. He’s had a difficult time in the last couple of years for Real Madrid; he got a lot of stick from the fans. I don’t think he’s been as loved and appreciated as he should be.
“My understanding for a couple of months has been that it is possible. I’m not saying it’s going to happen.”
Additionally, Mitten shut down any other midfield talk around those based in La Liga.
“He’s the only player in Spain that United have been looking at, to my knowledge.”

If United can sign Tchouameni, it would be a huge statement from Ineos and absolutely furthers the project 150 hopes for 2028.
However, a lot needs to fall into place for a deal to be agreed.
First, Madrid will probably want to sort out their replacement, with Rodri being heavily linked with making the move.
This would then need City to sign their replacement, with Enzo Fernandez linked lately, and then Chelsea. So, United’s signing of Tchouameni is part of a grand picture of moves that need each other to happen.
Tchouameni might not be the first choice, but if available, United need to at least look seriously at a deal, which the strength of reports suggests is happening.
