Manchester United have identified Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic as a potential replacement for David De Gea. He has a release clause of just €10 million (£8.8m).

The 28-year-old was nothing short of superb when he featured at the 2022 World Cup. He was one of the main reasons for Croatia’s success in the competition, making some fantastic saves along the way.

He currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb but is in the last year of his contract – which means United could obtain him on the cheap.

United want Livakovic according to reports

According to Croatian news outlet Sportske Jutarnji, they claim United want to bring Livakovic to Old Trafford this summer and view his release clause as ‘no obstacle’.

The release clause is approximately €10 million (£8.8m), which is simply nothing in this current footballing economic climate.

David De Gea‘s future at Manchester United is under scrutiny thanks to some recent shocking performances. It was reported by 90Min that he was close to finalising a new deal, but this is subjective to him taking a pay cut.

This is due to Erik ten Hag‘s desire to adapt the current wage structure. De Gea is currently the highest-paid name at the club on £375,000 a week.

Even if De Gea does not leave the club, Livakovic is certainly the right price to bring in to at least challenge De Gea for the number one spot.

For years now the 32-year-old has arguably had it too easy, with his name a certainty on the United team sheet.

Some healthy competition from another keeper may be beneficial for the Spaniard. It could ultimately bring out the best in him.
