David De Gea appears to be close to finalising a contract extension at Manchester United.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been at Old Trafford since 2011 and has made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils.
He last signed a contract extension back in 2019 – on a three-year deal until June 2023 – which means Erik ten Hag needs to make a decision as to whether to extend the Spaniard’s stay at the club.
Sources suggest that he is close to finalising a new deal. More on this is below.

David De Gea close to new deal?
The 32-year-old has been in talks with United for about a year now regarding a new deal, but 90min report that the United veteran will receive a new contract at the club – albeit with reduced terms.
The predicament with De Gea is that he is currently on £375,000 a week. United are desperate to restructure the wage system, which means they want the long-serving shot-stopper to take a pay cut.
De Gea has now agreed to take a substantial pay cut in order to prolong his stay at United.
Talks have been ongoing about the length of the deal and other add-ons, but 90min understands that there are no “major” hurdles left to clear, just to simply fine-tune some minor details.
De Gea hasn’t had it easy as of late. He’s come under major scrutiny in recent games due to some terrible errors made, which means some fans are uncertain as to whether a new deal would be the appropriate decision to make.
The question remains as to whether United will be in the market for a keeper in the summer. 90min has also learned that signing a goalkeeper to provide more substantial competition for De Gea should not be ruled out.
This could be the best-case scenario for United. Keeping De Gea on a lower wage with suitable competition may encourage finer performances. Much like how Luke Shaw drastically improved when Alex Telles arrived.
Time will tell as to whether De Gea will be Manchester United’s number one going forward.
